Research Interests:

My research focuses on a number of broad issues related to the Earth's biogeochemical evolution. This research includes specific studies on past climate and geochemical cycles, modern geochemical processes, and how anthropogenic perturbations might influence biogeochemical cycles in the future. My research includes examining elemental cycling in the ocean, estuaries, rivers, and lakes.

Current Research:

  • Signatures of the ocean's carbon cycle: Uranium, molybdenum, cadmium, and vanadium geochemistry in marine sediments.
  • Carbon, phosphorus, and trace metal cycling in Lake Malawi, east Africa: Developing chemical tools for understanding African climate history.
  • Millennial-scale variations in intermediate water masses of the South Pacific based on paleoflux, paleoredox, and watermass age tracers.
  • Molybdenum stable isotope geochemistry in marine sediments.
  • Germanium stable isotope fractionation during high and low temperature weathering.
