Began planning for a new year of professional development programs for Adult Basic Skills Development teachers at Oregon community colleges as part of a collaborative program with the State of Oregon. Our year-long pilot effort entitled “Ocean Sciences & Math Collaborative Project” (http://literacynet.org/ocean) involves instructors focused on workforce training, workplace education (cannery workers), adult basic education, adult secondary education (GED preparation), English to Speakers of Other Languages, Family Literacy, and Tribal Education (Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians). Recently submitted a proposal to Oregon Seagrant with Marta Torres (which was funded) to continue the development of this program for the 2008-09 year. Submitted a new “COSEE supplement proposal” with Marta Torres and the HMSC COSEE to expand the Ocean Sciences and Math Collaborative Program to include the OSU SMILE program and to establish stronger connections with the community colleges.
