Marine Resource Management
Faculty
Program Design and Areas of Concentration
With the increased concern about the health of our coasts and oceans, marine management has become more important than ever. COAS has a master’s program in Marine Resource Management (MRM) that develops marine management leaders ready to meet coming opportunities and challenges.
Established in 1974, MRM has 180 alumni and 25–30 students in residence. It is a science-based interdisciplinary master’s program emphasizing marine conservation, fisheries management, coastal processes, planning and hazards and marine pollution and coastal water quality.
In addition to the expertise offered by COAS faculty, MRM includes about 30 adjunct professors from OSU and other educational institutions and courtesy faculty from public agencies and the private sector.
This collaborative structure is an important strength. Students also benefit from a close relationship with organizations such as Oregon Sea Grant and the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
Funding for Students of Western States
The Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) makes many high-quality graduate programs available to students from 14 western states at a reasonable cost. Residents of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming are eligible to enroll at resident rates of tuition in designated WRGP graduate programs in these states.
